The Human Resource Payroll (HRP) Participant API connects new and existing participant data to Fidelity.
Benefits and features
The HRP Participant API provides the ability to add new participant data such as personal information, employment status, benefit eligibility dates, and more. This API can also be used to modify existing participant data for life events, such as enrolling in a health savings account (HSA), changing an address, or correcting a Social Security number.
How it works
When adding a new participant or modifying an existing record in HR, the system contacts Fidelity’s HRP Participant API. The system confirms whether the individual is a Fidelity participant, so a new participant can be added or an existing record can be modified. Once this determination is made, the HR system will make the appropriate call to Fidelity.
Sample use cases
These examples show queries for events such as sending new hire information, changing participant status, and updating participant benefit plan data.
Adding a new hire
In this use case, newly hired participants at a plan sponsor have their personal information sent to Fidelity from an HR system. The data may contain the participant’s name, address, gender, marital status, date of birth, ethnicity, employment status, work assignments, and current benefits.
Updating a change in participant status
In this use case, a participant’s status can be updated to reflect the relationship with the plan sponsor. This enhanced experience allows the system to send Fidelity a specific status (including active, terminated, or leave of absence), as well as the reasons associated with the status. This provides important details and context to determine the product status according to the plan documents.
Modifying participant plan data
In this use case, an administrator can modify participant plan data to reflect enrollment dates, vesting dates, annual contribution amounts, and enrollment status. The administrator can also leverage an account-opening consent indicator to simplify the participant’s ability to enroll in a benefit.
